Creative Cricklewood’s 50th Open Mic and Art Show – 6th February 2014

Happy Creative New Year!

We’re excited to announce the 50th Creative Cricklewood OPEN MIC and ART SHOW at The WINDMILL in Cricklewood on the 6th February 2014.

unnamed

Alongside the Open Mic we will be launching a new exhibition of paintings by local artist M. ADAMS.  An experienced and versatile artist, living and working in London. She has studied in Poland and England and has exhibited works across Denmark, UK and Germany.

Through her natural approach she uses the traditional artist’s tools of oil, ink and pencil. However, she is also fond of working with sugar, charcoal, clay, and glass.

The Exhibition Opening will be Thursday 6th Feb from 7pm, with music and poetry from 8pm.  All welcome!

The exhibition will run till March 3rd.

1555543_734646436547631_1210091228_nAlso Shut Up & Write is now running at 6.15-to 7.45pm every Monday evening in Costa Coffee on the corner of Chichele Road at 173 Cricklewood Broadway, in addition to the slot at Meral’s Cafe (Cricklewood Lane) on Friday’s at 3.15pm. This was started by popular demand, because people who were at work couldn’t make the Friday session. All who would like to write, in silence, for ninety minutes without interruption are welcome to come along and join our supportive and diverse group.

OPEN MIC & ART SHOW!

Thursday 4 July at the Windmill – 57 Cricklewood Broadway.

We present a brand new exhibition of paintings by graffiti artist BAMBOOKIDD.
with music and poetry as part of our regular Open Mic event.
From 7.30pm. Performances start at 8.00pm.

The exhibition will continue throughout July.
Opening hours: Mon – Fri from 4pm, Sat – Sun from 1pm

BAMBOOKIDD has been sketching and doodling since he could hold a pen.
Influenced by the likes of D*Face, The London Police, Jamie Hewlett,
The Simpsons, comic books, cartoons and growing up with skater/hip-hop
culture, he eventually began to develop and work on a character of his own.
The result is BAMBOOKIDD – a blank canvas that appears in art
reflecting the influences and activity which emerge from his mind.
Past projects have included exhibitions, live drawings, in-store
designs for small boutiques and record shops, as well as comic books,
flyers and customizations.

This week will be our 20th open mic event at The Windmill. We would like to thank everybody – performers, artists, and audience alike, who have supported it so far.

Creative Cricklewood (CC) was formed in the summer of 2011, when a motley group of local creatives came together at Meral’s café in Cricklewood. The fledgling group has grown quickly and organically and has managed to establish itself as one of the most diverse arts groups in North West London.

Led by a small volunteer team, Creative Cricklewood now runs three popular regular social events – The Open Mic and Art Show at The Windmill, Creative Cricklewood Third Tuesday (CCTT) and ‘Shut up and Write’. Our members are frequently involved in exhibitions and arts events across London and the UK, and the group has been heavily involved in The Cricklewood Improvement Programme, ‘The Big Draw’ and the Summer and Winter Festivals held in Cricklewood in 2012.

There are over 260 members on Facebook. We know many of you, but there are a lot of you out there that we don’t know and we would especially like you to come and introduce yourself and get involved.

So, please put the 20th May, 7.30pm in your diary. We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and lots of new ones too!

Cricklewood Winterfest – 24th November 2012

A warm welcome to any readers of Cricklewood Matters who may have read about us in the most recent issue.  Please get involved if you are creative or support the arts, and live or work in the area.

Creative Cricklewood will be involved in the upcoming Winterfest on Cricklewood lane on the 24th November 2012.  Make sure you come down on the day to watch the performers and carol singers and to support the local high street shops and the independent traders that will be set up.   For more details, read the press release from CIP below….

—————————————————————————————

Following hot on the heels of the Silk Road Summer Festival is the Cricklewood Winterfest on Saturday, 24 November 2012.

There will be food stalls, gift stalls, street theatre with colourful Christmas characters, stage entertainment and carols. A Cricklewood choir of residents will debut on the day and fun lasts from 1pm to 7pm at the Green Isle, outside B&Q.

Barnet Council has funded the Christmas illuminations on Cricklewood Lane whilst the WinterFest, an activity of the Cricklewood Connecting People and Places Project  is funded by the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund.  The Cricklewood Winterfest is supported by the Mayor’s Outer London Fund, which is helping increase the vibrancy and growth of high street places across London.

World-renowned industrial designers and makers Haberdashery London are currently prototyping the design and manufacture of bespoke festive lights, that will be not only 100% unique to Cricklewood, but also will reduce energy consumption, maintenance costs and will integrate into the fabric and spirit of the Cricklewood community.

Christmas 2012 will see the premiere of two prototype lights, along Cricklewood Lane, as part of the Christmas Winterfest event. This event will trial the prototype lights to give the community a chance to feedback on the design before all the new lights are put into production for Christmas 2013!

The Cricklewood WinterFest aims to:

  • usher in Christmas to Cricklewood
  • animate the town centre
  • attract more footfall to Cricklewood town centre
  • support local business
  • encourage community participation
  • engender pride of place.

“I would like to see people spending their hard earned money in local high streets this Christmas, getting in the festive spirit whilst supporting neighbourhood businesses to thrive. Events like WinterFest in Cricklewood are a great way to entice customers to the area and bring the community together. We need vibrant, bustling high streets and kick-starting activity in areas like Cricklewood is what my Outer London Fund is doing across the capital.”  Boris Johnson, Mayor of London

Danny Maher, Chair of Cricklewood Improvement Programme said, “People don’t have to go into central London or out of town shopping centres to get into the Christmas spirit. Enjoy a fun, festive afternoon in Cricklewood and support local businesses at the same time”.

The Open Door Big Draw, Cricklewood – 28th October 2012

Creative Cricklewood is inviting local people to join visual artists and story tellers for an engaging day of wonderful stories and imaginative drawing.

You don’t need to know how to do it or to have ever tried drawing before: it’s just about having fun and contributing your marks to a great big drawing that we can all share and enjoy. We will provide the paper, crayons, pencils and the stories: you provide the ears, the eyes and the imaginations!

The project aims to bring different parts of our community together and to mix us up for a while through a shared creative activity that we can all enjoy.

We are kindly hosted for the event by the Brent Mosque and Islamic Centre on Chichele Road in Cricklewood. We will be using the community hall on the basement floor, so will have plenty of room to unroll our paper and spread out on the floor and tables. Around the hall we will have different ‘stations’ to explore:

If you would like to just listen to stories you can do just that.
The stories will reflect and intertwine the rich oral traditions of different cultures and faiths.

Alongside the story tellers there will be various visual artists to lend a hand, encourage and assist you. If you would like to have a demonstration of different techniques for making marks and approaching drawing the teachers will be on station to help you out. We will have a still life set up, a bit of dressing up, various tricks and fun to get you in the mood for scribbling and doodling.

Down the middle of the hall will be a big roll of paper that we can all doodle and draw on. There may be a landscape on it that needs some trees, or a desert that is missing a tent… perhaps a city, with rooms needing furniture and characters from the stories to come to life…

There will be no prizes or judges, no winners or loosers. We don’t need to make Art we just want to explore, experiment and have fun together.

All the materials, paper, pencils, crayons and sharpeners are provided free of charge.

The main entrance to the Mosque is on Howard Road, Cricklewood, however we will be using an entrance on Chichele Road that leads directly to the hall. It is pretty much opposite Sheldon Road.

If you would like to volunteer to help on the project in any way lease drop us an email. creativecricklewood at gmail.com

The Silk Road Festival

Creative Cricklewood are participating in the Silk Road Festival on 15th of September.  It looks like a great line up and we have been busily cranking up the heat on street decorations.  On the day, we will have a stall outside Beacon Bingo where you can sign up to be a CC member.  Later on in the Four Seasons Cafe from 6pm there will be an exhibition curated by CC’s own Kevin Vincenzo Keating and a post festival party featuring some fantastic local musicians.
