Open Mic Thursday 2nd October

Our next Open Mic on Thursday 2nd October features ‘Organic’ a new exhibition of work by photographer Nataša Jandrić.

MC for the evening – poet Martin Sanderson

Nataša was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, former Yugoslavia. She moved to London in mid 90’s where she gained a BA in Media and Communications studies. Natasa’s work centres on fine art and social documentary photography, experimenting with the boundary between photography and art. She has exhibited in London, Belgrade and Sarajevo. Natasa lives and works in London.

“Having two homes (UK and Bosnia) I like to explore those two totally different cultures, often combining them into one. We often belong to more then one place or state of mind, sometimes belonging, sometimes being total outsiders and observers. “Organic” is this third space we all create for ourselves; space we like to call home.”

This weeks show features a new exhibition by Elzbieta Adamczyk

Elzbieta studied classical philology at the Catholic University of Lublin in eastern Poland.

Though she now lives and paints in the Pieniny mountains, her landscape work is more likely to include broad meadows with views to the horizon, evoking feelings of space and air.

She has exhibited widely in Poland, and this will be her first London show.

As usual, get there early to view the art before it gets busy with the performances from 8pm.

Performers sign in from 7pm

The Open Mic returns this week at the Windmill with a new exhibition by artist KATE BRACE

As usual, get there early to view the art before it gets busy with the performances from 8pm.
Performers sign in from 7pm
This month, half the proceeds of the exhibition will be donated to Ashford Place (formerly Cricklewood Homeless Concern)
Kate Brace gained a First in her Fine Art Degree, and has refined her love of colour and line through travels in India and the Far East.
Her work explores identity and memory in relation to the changing physical environment

Our MC this week is the ever popular MARTIN SANDERSON
Martin is a poet and spoken word artist mostly concerning himself with themes of love, quantum physics and the inclement weather. He intends for his art to be a mirror and a hammer to reflect and ultimately wreak a great carnage amongst those few asinine f***wits who are making such a total horlicks of running the planet.
Any ARTISTS interested in showing their work in the future – please email us for more info. Shows last one month, currently no fee or commission payable.

Open Mic & Art Show. 7pm, 3rd April 2014

This Thursday April 3rd from 7pm at The Windmill – 57 Cricklewood Broadway, Cricklewood, NW2 3JX

Featuring a new exhibition by emerging local artists Holly Stenhouse & Ranalph Kaine

Arrive early from 7pm to view the art, before the music starts at 8pm – with MC CALM CARL CHAMBERLAIN.  Performers should sign in from 7pm

Ranalph Kaine is a Kilburn based artist working in a range of media. His work deals with worlds both seen & unseen

The focus of Holly Stenhouse’s recent work reflects an ongoing engagement with surface and detail of everyday objects and artefacts. Having recently completed a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at Barnet & Southgate College, Holly has continued to explore the use of traditional and non-traditional tools and materials and processes, in particular print-making and sculpture. The subject matter of her work concerns her attempt at recapturing an image or object by creating multi layers with a range of media and processes that obscures the original representation and becomes visually ambiguous. The pure physicality of manipulation and experimentation with mixed media is, for Holly, thoroughly absorbing and has been a stimulus for the development of her current work.

The exhibition continues through April. Any artists wishing to show their work in the future please email us for more details.

Open Mic & Art Show at The Windmill, Cricklewood – 5th Dec 7pm

Henryk and Tim 2CC is proud to present an exhibition of paintings and prints by Henryk Terpilowski and Tim Major.

All are invited to the opening on Thursday 5th Dec from 7pm, as part of our regular Open Mic event.

The show continues through December at The Windmill 57 Cricklewood Broadway, NW2.

Henryk Terpilowski’s paintings draw on his background as a decorative artist. He has used the skills acquired from this field to develop a highly individual expressionistic style of painting.

Tim Major’s etchings follow a thread that connects directly with the cartoonists and illustrators of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries through to the Surrealists. His images are thoroughly of the moment, dealing with familiar aspects of the human condition which are then rendered with disturbing and unfamiliar juxtapositions and inventions.

Thursday 4 July at the Windmill – 57 Cricklewood Broadway.

We present a brand new exhibition of paintings by graffiti artist BAMBOOKIDD.
with music and poetry as part of our regular Open Mic event.
From 7.30pm. Performances start at 8.00pm.

The exhibition will continue throughout July.
Opening hours: Mon – Fri from 4pm, Sat – Sun from 1pm

BAMBOOKIDD has been sketching and doodling since he could hold a pen.
Influenced by the likes of D*Face, The London Police, Jamie Hewlett,
The Simpsons, comic books, cartoons and growing up with skater/hip-hop
culture, he eventually began to develop and work on a character of his own.
The result is BAMBOOKIDD – a blank canvas that appears in art
reflecting the influences and activity which emerge from his mind.
Past projects have included exhibitions, live drawings, in-store
designs for small boutiques and record shops, as well as comic books,
flyers and customizations.

This week will be our 20th open mic event at The Windmill. We would like to thank everybody – performers, artists, and audience alike, who have supported it so far.

Big thanks to Louise and the staff at the Windmill for hosting.

A review by Amanda Beasley: “OMG I have just left the open Mic at the Windmill what a night !

“The evening started with a couple of numbers from the fantastic Panama Dave, followed by poems from the Cricklewood Bard Philip Chadwick, including a poem for Tolkien fans. Adam Tunji who came all the way from Plumstead to perform a couple of songs for us with Panama Dave, his song ‘Central Heating’ was wonderful. Poet Jack Kelly ‘Where would we be without your shinanigans’? is an Open Mic regular.

Tres B sang ‘I was a lonely man’ but he was far from lonely tonight with his 5 piece Congolese band. Songs “This is Africa”, “Freedom” and “I can’t go home”, set the place alight. Rabimsha played an instrument called a Berinbau played in Brazil, Africa and parts of Japan. This amazing instrument which resembled a long stick with a calabash at the bottom of it and one metal ‘string’ ( he tells me the metal comes from a car tyre ) is played using a pebble to change the tone, giving a beautiful sound. He sang ‘Welcome song’ which he wrote himself followed by a Jimi Hendrix cover “If 6 was 9”. Magical!

Kira Kenley and Neroli what a duo! I loved ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Tribute to London’ dont forget you said you would dance too next time! Please come back we loved you. ( Mikele Markionni dropped his usual operatic voice to sing some popular pop, and regular Zimmy van Zandt finished off. The evening was rounded off artistically with some live portrait drawing by Cricklewood artist Peter.

Well done to Tobias, photographer extraordinaire! Thank you everyone for another fantastic night.  Thank you to Henryk, Panama Dave and Carl Chamberlain for putting it together so well AGAIN!”

The next open mic is this Thursday 7th January featuring…

Guest MC Sarah-Jane Miller.

Live (free) caricature drawing by portrait artist MARY SAXE-FALSTEIN

A new exhibition of paintings by CC artist SANDY ALKALAI“Sandy’s work takes a psychological odyssey throughout the universe and unchartered dimensions visited by the mind.”
